Another favorite museum of ours here in Philadelphia is the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. In my opinion, it’s a undervalued museum that doesn’t get enough attention! It’s small but it’s a neat little museum that’s worth a half day trip for any family visiting the Philadelphia area.
Of course they have the cool dinosaur area with lots of bones and interactive exhibits about dinosaurs:
The museum also has several floors of educational dioramas but our favorite exhibit is Outside In, a room on the 3rd floor where outdoor insects and other small animals are housed:
On our last trip there, I was actually on a field trip with my son’s third graders and we got to hear from someone who works at the museum and she showed us a couple of the animals who live at the museum.
The Academy of Natural Sciences is a nice half day trip. Here’s some info on planning your visit to the Academy of Natural Sciences.
Also of interest, if you have time, the Franklin Institute is only a block away!
